Spots for the last two days... Note that they're down further on less worry over inventories of crude... Note of caution here tho as we've got a month ahead of the peak summer driving season and anything could happen with imports of crude in the interim, including OPEC changing their minds on export levels. Big changes too,in the Canuck Buck against the US dollar where, over the past month,we've lost 1.5 cents against the rival currency and that's cost the consumer almost 8/10ths a litre. All prices in cents per litre...
April 28/05 47.73/litre April 29/05 46.15/Litre
Looks like another slight drop in the works here...

George

Tracking this latest drop in crude oil that has resulted in slight relief in gasoline spot pricing. If I got this, the companies must!
April 26/05 50.23/Litre April 27/05 47.37/Litre
Translates to some 3.7 cents PLUS applicable provincial taxes.

You're right on Nichols, that is one of the reasons why we probably switched to metric. We are a very passive society.

Home from a visit to Ontario so,I figured that I better review the spots since my last full posting-just so you can see what's been happenning... All prices in cents per litre...
April 15/05 45.44/Litre April 18/05 46.10 April 19/05 48.32 April 20/05 49.11/Litre April 21/05 50.37 April 22/05 51.11 April 25/05 51.08/Litre
Not good is it? I'm glad a lot of you had the chance to fill up before the increase... Realities of the market are starting to sink in and the recent closures of refineries are coming back to bite the consumer right where it hurts-In the pocketbook! In the recent years,I can think of about 300,000 barrels per day of refiner capacity that has been removed from the EASTERN CANADA market while the useage of automobiles has increased. Dare a prediction? The value of these gas/electric cars coming on the markets will make themselves financially viable for a time-a time when doallrs in the tank will equal to what we put in them just a year or two ago... Might save on the use of gasoline but their financial worth may be lessened because of the "drive" that oil companies-and consumers-are putting on overall gasoline inventories.
How's that one for a futuristic reading for ya!

I don't think I have to say any more?...lol

Latest spot prices I have... All prices in cents per litre... The Gomery Inquiry is having an effect on the bank rate that i use as part of the measure in the conversion of spots from US to Canadian values, believe it or not,so the actual drop should have been a little more than what I have listed below. An "insecure" government is going to have an insecure dollar as well... April 11/05 46.17/Litre April 12/05 45.68/Lt April 13/05 43.93/Lt April 14/05 44.72/Lt
*Note here that the spot price from April 01/05 to April 14/05 is down by as much as 7 cents a litre while pump prices have not come down by the applicable 7.8 cents a litre (taxes in). I'm still seeing a peak price in the Halifax area of 99.9/Litre...Is that right? Regards,
George

Latest spots that I have. All in cents per litre...
Note that the end shows a radical drop as the market fell out of the gasoline futures market. We'll take it for now I guess...
April 01/05 51.50/Litre April 04/05 51.47/Litre April 05/05 50.34 April 06/05 49.08 April 07/05 46.36 April 08/05 45.61/Litre
This drop should translate to over a six cent a litre drop by the time it works it's way through. From the timeline on the last round of increases,I'm figuring they'll do a 3 plus 3 thing... Dunno if that's going to be the way they'll do it tho...

Better hope that this latest rise in the spot doesn't hit...
All in cents per litre...
March 28/05 45.99/Litre March 29/05 46.75/Litre March 30/05 47.28/Litre March 31/05 48.93/Litre
With oil here at $55.71 this morning,it wouldn't suprise me to see that spot for gasoline hit fifty cents this day, ironically April Fools Day. With that rise, look for an increase in gasoline at the pumps by some 3 cents on a litre-that could come as early as Monday.

Spots for the week ending March 25/05... Mostly up,spots started coming down midweek when the markets "couldn't find an excuse" to keep upwards pressure on oil.The fire at the BP refinery in Texas City,Texas on Thursday night was, however,a good excuse to finish off on an "up" note for the week... While employing some 1900 people, what really worries me is that this refinery does an overall capacity of some 430,000 barrels of crude per day and with that production offline for a bit,it might "motor up" prices. Important day coming Wednesday. Inventory data may show a draw on gasoline inventory that may drive up prices but any build in overall crude may thwart that and move it downwards.
All prices in cents per litre...
March 21/05 48.48/Litre March 22/05 47.23/Litre March 23/05 46.97 March 24/05 47.81 March 25/05 Good Friday Holiday

Latest spots are still elevated but the peak they hit March 08/05 has moderated slightly. While they dropped slightly, let's see how long it takes before prices come down. Quick note here on what I'm tracking tho,the simple fact is that spot pricing is around 10 cents a litre higher than the same time last year and that doesn't bode well for the summer if the trend keeps up. Prices in cents per litre...

Latest again from this round-identical spots from the previous two days indicates a "steady" for the time being... All prices in cents per litre...
March 07/05 45.93/litre March 08/05 46.35/Litre The Canuck Buck's gain invalue against the US dollar averted a shock on the spot today and maybe we can save something from all this if the Canuck Buck gains still more.

Latest spots from the end of last week... The trend on these is also "UP"... Try to refrain from posting on this section as the spots get "lost" down the list... All prices in cents per litre...
March 01/05 41.91/Litre March 02/05 44.52/Litre March 03/05 45.93/litre March 04/05 46.00/litre
News is not good ahead of the summer driving season as we're seeing heavier demand for gasoline ahead of summer. Crude remains high, and is gaining,on news of increasing demand in China and india, where their economies are booming. Cold weather in the US Northeast and Canada has also played on oil prices though i don't agree with the timing" or the excuses from "Big Oil" on the demand for heating oil product so late in the winter heating season. Further to this,a report from the Energy Information Administration in the US fortold of a gentle drop in gasoline ahead of the summer driving season as a result of increasing gasoline inventories. Fat chance! I've sent off a letter of inquiry to them to explain their statements in the face of that report and what's been the actual that has occurred but,no answer yet-and I don't anticipate getting one...
Once again, try not to post here as the spots get "lost"...lol

.... and of course the Federal and Provincial Govenment would disagree... mainly because of the Tax revenue to them. We (the consumer) have nobody to stand up for us. I wrote the Competition Bureau a few times and they just fob it off.
Even the NDP will not stand up for the consumer!

Spot for february 03/05 is down considerably... 40.04 per litre as of yesterday from the 43.85 high on January 27th. That's more than 4.4 crnts less a litre according to what should be reading at the pumps today.
Something not right with all this if,indeed, prices don't come down.

Spots as I have them... Just posting these early so everyone can see why there should be a drop in prices coming... Noting now, that it's been a two day spread between the "actual" day of the spot when the companies know and my "actual" when the numbers are published, are two different times... Prices should have come back down from their high today. They better do it by Friday morning if they want to be seen as "fair"... maybe a call to the Competition Bureau might be in store if it doesn't happen?... All prices in cents per litre...

Latest spot pricing for the last week.... The trend,of course, was up and so were the prices at the pumps this week. Here on the Rock, prices were up by 3.3 cents a litre(taxes in)... The Canadian dollar also slid against the US buck and,if that trend of a loss in value against the US dollar should continue,it'll be interesting to see what will happen to prices at the pumps this summer. I also have posted here the Canadian dolar value against the US buck... Here's the latest. All prices in cents per litre...
January 24/05 41.49/Lt ($1.2260) January 25/05 43.30/Lt ($1.2383) January 26/05 43.96/Lt ($1.2307) January 27/05 43.85/Lt ($1.2367) January 28/05 42.36/lt ($1.2421)

Spot pricing as of January 21/05.. All prices in cents per litre... January 17/05 Martin Luther King Holiday January 18/05 39.91/Lt January 19/05 40.10/Lt January 20/05 40.18/Lt January 21/05 41.16/lt
Remember late last spring when the spot went outta whack and we all were paying that dreaded dollar a litre? That last spot price you're looking at,the 41.16 is reminicent of the time last year when all went nuts. Here's my thought... if the spot price is elevated NOW then what are we gonna be paying when the Summer driving season comes?...
Gotcha thinking?

Spots for the last week or so... All prices in cents per litre...
January 10/05 38.42/Litre January 11/05 38.17/Litre January 12/05 38.11/Lt January 13/05 39.11/Lt January 14/05 40.30/Lt
Note that the spot has increased since last weeks numbers. The Canadian dollar was "all over the place" this week, from $1.19 or so up to Friday's $1.22 against the US dollar. Look for more pressure on prices when the latest Energy Information Administration SHOULD show a drop in heating oil inventory. Why? Look at the US news the last few days is showing a drop in the temperature that should be reflective of a draw on inventory on heating oils. That'll "kickstart" another drive upwards in price. UNLESS... The crude oil that couldn't land in the coastal US region last week may result in a gain in overall inventory of crude oil this week... Confused?... I didn't think so....lol

Try this link... www.oilnergy.com/1cashpet.htm or try this one... www.wtrg.com click on prices for New York Harbour.
You'll also need the converter from the US to Canadian dollar here... http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/exchange-look.htm
Then divide the number by 3.785 which is the number of litres in a US gallon. Example here is for the 5th of january: Us amount on Regular unleaded=$1.1448 Canadian exchange =$1.2238 (noon value) Canadian equivalentper gallon=$1.4010 Divide by:3.785 = .3701 a litre
Hope this helps!

December 17/04 36.37/Litre.....$1.2262=$1US December 20/04 35.15/Litre.....$1.2294 December 21/04 36.25/Litre.....$1.2271 December 22/04 36.22/Litre.....$1.2413 December 23/04 35.47/Litre.....$1.2357

Have a look at the latest that I have. The fall of the Canuck Buck this past week will have added almost another cent onto gasoline and heating oil pricing-I'm thinking by Monday the 17th. All prices in cents per litre...
December 13/04 33.87/Litre December 14/04 34.54/Litre December 15/04 35.43/Litre December 16/04 35.22/Litre

Latest spots-December 06/04 until December 10/04. This MAY BE the lowest for the next bit. While the spot has shown a minor trend upwards, the Canuck Buck shows signs of faltering.Until it gets back to it's past trend of UP against the US dollar,it may be enough to offset any further decreases-at least-for now... All prices in cents per litre.
December 06/04 34.26/Litre December 07/04 32.47/Litre December 08/04 32.53/Litre December 09/04 33.23/Litre December 10/04 33.00/Litre
Note here: The Canuck Buck lost three cents in the past six days against the US buck. That translates into about 6/10ths of a cent loss to the oil companies from the consumers pockets.

George

Last two days worth of spots... Note the drops from November 30/04 until Fridays... All prices in cents per litre...
November 30/04 39.47/Litre December 01/04 36.67/Litre December 02/04 34.86/Litre December 03/04 34.39/Litre
I'm hoping that the last two days are the ones that'll figure at the pumps today and that with oil trading at $42.98US a barrel as of 5:30am this morning, the trend downwards will continue.
More importantly,at this time of the year, let's hope the spot keeps dropping on heating oils like this past week. Keep checking those local prices and HOLD OFF UNTIL HEATING OIL PRICES DROP BACK TOO!

George Murphy
